64-Year-Old Woman Faces Deportation after Accidental Wrong Turn in Southern California

Must read

A 64-year-old undocumented woman who has resided in the U.S. for two decades is reportedly facing deportation after an accidental wrong turn.

On April 7, Ana Camero left her job as a dishwasher at a La Jolla restaurant, stopped for gas, and mistakenly entered the Marine Corps Depot in San Diego, where she was asked for ID.

According to The Mercury News, immigration officials were contacted when she couldn’t provide the requested details, and as she waited outside the base in her car, Border Patrol pulled up.

A Marine Corps spokesperson’s call was the first time Camero’s family was informed that her mother, who lives with diabetes and a vascular condition, had been taken into custody.

The 64-year-old woman, originally from Mexico, was being held at the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego, though her current status is uncertain.

Marine Corps Recruit Depot officials told the Los Angeles Times that individuals trying to enter a federal facility must show government-issued ID, and if they can’t, Border Patrol is contacted.

Additionally, authorities with U.S. Immigration and Customs told the outlet that the 64-year-old was detained and in the process of being deported to Mexico.
