The 2028 Olympics will spotlight both tradition and innovation, with LA’s oldest and newest sports venues co-hosting the ceremonies.
The iconic LA Memorial Coliseum and the state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium will share hosting duties for the 2028 Olympic ceremonies, officials revealed Thursday.
On July 14, 2028, the Opening Ceremony will be co-hosted by SoFi Stadium and the Coliseum, with the Closing Ceremony set for July 30 at the LA Memorial Coliseum, making it the first venue to be part of three Olympic Games.
The LA Memorial Coliseum was the centerpiece of Olympic events in both 1932 and 1984.
“The venues selected for the 2028 Opening and Closing Ceremonies will highlight Los Angeles’s rich sporting history and cutting-edge future, showcasing the very best that LA has to offer on the world stage,” said LA28 Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman.
Clarity around the 2028 Olympic competition venues came last month as LA28 revealed locations for over a dozen sports — including beach volleyball, surfing, and baseball — with the IOC approving the updated plan.
Previously revealed venues include a mix of iconic and regional sites: the LA Memorial Coliseum, BMO Stadium, Crypto.com Arena, the Rose Bowl, and even Oklahoma City, which will host canoe slalom and softball.
