Wildfire Victims See Tax Refunds Returned — Find Out How to Reclaim Yours

Must read

Lost your home in the Palisades or Eaton fires? LA County may owe you — but many checks are being returned.

Wildfire Tax Refund: Who can Claim it?

More than 16,000 structures were lost in the Palisades and Eaton fires across Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, and Altadena. In response, the Assessor’s Office reduced property values in affected areas — making many homeowners eligible for tax refunds.

Relief payments are underway, and fire victims can still submit applications through the Assessor’s website: assessor.lacounty.gov.

How do I claim my payment?

The Auditor-Controller’s office has distributed thousands of checks, but the Post Office is marking many undeliverable — often because they’re addressed to homes that no longer exist.

There’s an easy solution: just update your mailing address online at assessor.lacounty.gov/homeowners/change-mailing-address.
