Authorities report that the man accused of ramming his car into a crowd on a Los Angeles sidewalk — injuring 36 — has a criminal record, including a felony battery conviction.
Police identified the driver as 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez, who was attacked by bystanders after the early Saturday crash in East Hollywood. Paramedics later discovered he had also been shot. Authorities are searching for the suspected gunman — described as a man with a goatee wearing a blue Dodgers jacket.
Fernando Ramirez of San Clemente, California, is recovering and expected to be charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon. He could not be reached for comment, and it’s unclear if he has legal representation.
LAPD Captain Ben Fernandes confirmed Ramirez was sentenced in 2020 for attacking a man outside a Whole Foods in 2019. He was on parole during Saturday’s crash, but the connection to prior charges is unclear. Ramirez has 11 prior cases, including an open felony domestic battery case from 2022, where he pleaded not guilty.
