Los Angeles Set to Name TACOS as the City’s Official Food

Must read

A motion has been filed in Los Angeles to declare tacos the official city food. Other cities, including Beverly Hills and Long Beach, are exploring the idea.

As the city struggles with a housing crisis and a fragile post-fire economy, officials have turned their attention to an unexpected source of unity: tacos. The proposed “Taco Royalty Tax” would apply to new businesses using “taco,” “taquería,” or “taco shop” in their names. Experts warn taco holder prices could jump by 69%.

City officials tell L.A. TACO, “The funds will be funneled for use in our social programs.” A small portion of the funds, 3%, will go toward city pay raises. Meanwhile, 89% will be directed to the LAPD to restock less-than-lethal ammunition, and 8% will be set aside for dog parks.
